Bell's Dahlias

All Bell's dahlias are bred right here at the nursery and are suitable for garden growing and cut flowers. I've been hybridizing and breeding plants since studying horticultural science and starting the farm and nursery in 2012. Over the years the focus has turned solely to dahlias with dedicated tunnels and fields for breeding and growing new varieties.
 
Breeding dahlias takes time and patience as it can take years of growing and observing a new dahlia variety until it's ready to share with the world. The time, space and knowledge used to breed new dahlias are often reflected in the price and I would recommend that if you’re new to dahlias, then go slow with a few less expensive varieties at first. These little beauties will be right here waiting for you when you’re ready.

Please note that we are committed to preserving the integrity and quality of our unique dahlia varieties, ensuring that our substantial investment in breeding is protected. We deeply value the contributions of small farms and hobbyist growers who may sell a few tubers here and there and do not intend to seek royalties from these valued contributors. However, our primary concern lies with large-scale operations that might mass-produce our varieties without maintaining our quality standards. Such practices can introduce pathogens, reduce the quality of the blooms, and potentially harm our reputation.

To address this, we are exploring a combination of trademark protection, Plant Variety Protection (PVP), and patent applications for some varieties. Trademark protection will help us control the use of our variety names in commerce, while PVP and patents provide the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute our unique varieties. Together, these measures allow us to prevent unauthorized large-scale reproduction, protecting our varieties and allowing us to continue sharing our dahlias with others who are passionate about preserving the craft.
